Interest Rates
September 11th, 2008 3:53 PM

Hear ye hear ye.... interates have dropped! Yes, it looks like the federal government stepping in to take over the mortgage lenders of Freddie Mac and Fannie Mae has given the Bond Market a great boost.

We will take anything right now and lower interest rates are only going to assist us right now. So, if you are in the process of buying or selling real estate things just got better.

What is going on?
September 23rd, 2008 10:16 AM

I remember a few years back as I was making a blanket statement about how real estate historically keeps pace or surpasses inflation, and my father (born 1919) looks at me and says in a very serious and stern voice, "historically the great depression wiped out real estate and everyone with it!"

Okay, point taken. I will never make a comment like that again. So, what is going on right now? Are we heading in that direction once again? I do my best not to get political in my job but I must admit that these days it is difficult to not take a stance. Is this 'bailout' proposed by Bush a good idea?  Whew, damed if we do and damned if we don't. What do you think?

Real Estate wise I still see properties coming on the market and I still see them going under deposit and closing. It seems to be the case that life is managing to go on some how. So, it is your turn, tell me what you think is happening. I began my real estate career in Stowe Vermont in 1986 and October 1987 "Black Monday" came with a sharp drop in the stock market. Yet we are still here, in the early 1990's I saw a recession occur as our first gulf war came upon us, I witnessed people writing checks at closings as they sold their properties and had to pay the difference between what they owed and what the sold for.  I am here now as this whirlwind chaos surrounds us and I think 'we will survive this too.'

Barak Obama  and John McCain both try their best to say they will make changes and right this craziness.... life continues and we shall see.

School's back
September 7th, 2008 11:48 AM

I am always so sad this time of year. This goes way back to child hood when summer ending and going back to school meant no more long days of swimming and playing and endless days of playing outside with friends.

Somehow I never got over this even as an adult. Now with a 13 year old I see her returning to school and my heart is heavy. I enjoy all those things with my daughter now, that I use to do. Her love of the water is as great  (perhaps greater) than mine and this summer was especially fun because there weren't a million scheduled events and we spent a lot of family time out on the lake with our boat.

At last, time moves on and school is back in session. Schedules return,  and fall is looming over us. Now there's the bright spot! I can't help but get excited by fall because up here in the mountains it is gorgeous!!! My time spent in the water turns more towards hikes in the hills and biking under cooler skies. I really enjoy all the school sports and watching all the old friendships getting back together after a summer apart.

So, this is how I deal with the 'loss' of summer I see the changes the new season brings and I always remember how much I love the things about all the other seasons as well.

So, come see me here in Underhill/Jericho and Cambridge Areas and I  will treat you to all the wonderfull things we do here. Remember, we are willing to drive to work becuase we come home to play!
